September 16th & 17th

September 21st, 2019

Minke whale no. 11 was recorded at the beginning of this week! And common dolphins and harbour porpoises are still being sighted almost daily on our trips at the moment. This is a fantastic time of year to see cetaceans, and a huge fin whale breaching 12 miles out to sea was reported to us, so we’re keen to explore further offshore when we have some nice, calm conditions. We were delighted to record our first seal pup of the year on Monday and have since seen it a couple more times, playing and rolling in the surf and gaining weight every day, with its parents close by in the water watching and teaching. Three different species of shearwater were also seen including sooty and Balearic, and guillemots and razorbills have returned to Falmouth Bay.

1 Minke Whale, 20ft adult, 11th sighting for this year, 20 Common Dolphins, including a new born calf, 25 Harbour Porpoises, 1 Common Seal, 8 Atlantic Grey Seals, including one pup, first for this year, Giant Bluefin Tuna, Sooty Shearwaters, Balearic Shearwaters, Manx Shearwaters, Mediterranean Gulls, Gannets, Guillemots, Razorbills
