August 1st

August 6th, 2020

Not a bad start to August with minke whales, common dolphins and Atlantic bluefin tuna sighted on both trips! A couple of adult minke whales popped up so close to the boat you could smell the fishy stench of their blow (seeing how the earnt the nickname ‘stinky minke’), and huge bluefin tuna could be seen breaching right out of the water, their bodies bigger than a dolphin’s. Clouds of Manx shearwaters and large numbers of gannets covered the sea offshore and seals and porpoises were also seen on the morning cruise.

2 Minke Whales, 20ft adults, close encounters, +-200 Common Dolphins, including tiny calves and an adult with a bent rostrum, hunting, leaping and bow-riding, in the Carrick Roads and offshore, Harbour Porpoise, Atlantic bluefin tuna, breaching 6ft out of the water, Atlantic Grey Seals, 1000s of Manx Shearwaters, 100s of Gannets, Guillemots, Mediterranean Gulls, Fulmar, Compass Jellyfish
