August 8th & 9th

August 11th, 2020

So many harbour porpoises were recorded over the weekend! Large hunting groups were seen on every single trip, mostly quite close inshore and always associated with huge work ups of diving gannets. Pods of around 20 or 30 animals kept popping up and rushing at speed around us. Giant bluefin tuna are still exploding out of the sea in several locations offshore and we have been ambushed by small pods of common dolphins out of nowhere which is always a very welcome surprise. We also spotted seals on every trip as well as a heron flying inland from far offshore which was an unexpected sight.

+-180 Common Dolphins, multiple interactions, including a new born calf, +-110 Harbour Porpoises, large hunting groups inshore, Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, multiple fish, Atlantic Grey Seals, including a pregnant female hauled out, 1000s of Manx Shearwaters, 100s of Gannets, hunting inshore, Sandwich Terns, Swallows, Mediterranean Gulls, Fulmar, Guillemots, offshore, 24 Common Scoters, 2 Peregrine Falcons, including fledged chick, 1 Heron, flying offshore, 1 Egret
