Cornwall birding website was founded in 2007 in order to fill a gap on the internet for up to date bird news, photos and more about birders and bird watching in Cornwall. This snowballed rapidly and we have fast become the county’s premier birding website and used daily by over 900 readers. Since July 2007 the site has had nearly 2.5 million hits from over 180,000 visiters originating from 121 different countries.
In 2010 we decided to publish our first Rare and Scarce Bird Report, which was a major success and became the first of our annual reports. On the back of this, and that of the website, the Cornwall Birding Association was formed.
The Marine Conservation Society is the UK charity dedicated to protecting our seas, shores and wildlife. We work with the public, governments, industry, commercial partners and communities to raise awareness of the serious issues facing our seas. Our role is to educate and inspire people to change their habits, opinions and preconceptions to help preserve our oceans for generations to come.
Our seas are under immense pressure – too many fish are being taken out, too much rubbish is being thrown in and not enough is being done to protect our marine wildlife, habitats and fish stocks.
You can help make a difference by supporting the MCS and by bringing more awarerness to the plight of our seas and fagile marine habitat.

LOVE TO WALK, LIVE TO WALK
Scientists and the public partnering to monitor and improve the conservation of cetaceans in UK waters.
Marine Connection is a small but very effective cetacean charity.
Campaigning nationally and internationally for the welfare, protection and conservation of dolphins, whales and porpoises . We feel very passionate about the welfare and protection of all cetaceans, the charity never ignores urgent pleas to act on behalf of all dolphins and whales; and has contributed to many important victories to stop individual animals’ suffering and destruction of their natural habitat.
Our ultimate goal is to ensure global protection of these magnificent marine mammals, put an end to them being held in captivity and stop captures from the wild.
The WiSe Scheme is the UK standard for commercial marine wildlife watching. Recognising the need to develop and maintain the highest standards, we seek collaborative opportunities to work with like-minded organisations (nationally and internationally) to raise standards and develop new, workable initiatives.
Established back in 1987, Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), is the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and welfare of all whales and dolphins (also known as cetaceans).
MARINElife is a charity, established to co-ordinate and develop a growing portfolio of cetacean and seabird research and monitoring projects, chiefly in European Waters. Focal areas of work include whale, dolphin and seabird monitoring from ferries and other ‘ships of opportunity’ and research on Balearic Shearwaters, Bottlenose Dolphins and White-beaked Dolphins. Through these projects and collaborations, we aim to further the conservation of the wildlife of oceans and coasts through scientific investigation and educational activities.
MARINElife continues to work in partnership with a number of other research groups, spearheading an international initiative, the Atlantic Research Coalition (ARC) that aims to describe changes in the status of whales and dolphins at a European scale. Further information on MARINElife can be found by visiting our website at marine-life.org.uk and further
information on the North East Cetacean Project can be found at
It was my love of wildlife that first attracted me to photography. It seemed like a natural progression to photograph wildlife instead of just watching it, so, at the age of Fifteen I learnt the basics of photography on an old manual Praktica. In 2005 I bought my first digital SLR and from then on my love of photography has grown , and now I am passionate about many different genres of photography including wildlife, wedding, portrait, landscape, macro, commercial and editorial.
My aim, whether I am out in the field photographing wildlife or photographing a high-end wedding, is to capture the essence of the subject as naturally as possible using the best light possible. Hopefully this is apparent in my work.
Last year I entered my first photographic competition, the 2012 British Wildlife Photography Awards. Three of my images were shortlisted and one of my images was highly commended. This featured in the national exhibition and is also in the book. The same image was also runner-up in the worldwide Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition in 2012 (Nature in close-up category)
Some of my most recent commissions include wedding photography, portraits, documenting the local fisheries, equine photography and photographing the Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority (IFCA)

I have had a great passion for all wildlife from a very young age and enjoy studying and photographing marine animals, including underwater filming, as well as capturing the natural wonders of the countryside. At this present time I am completing my BA in Zoology at University of Exeter, Cornwall campus, and feel incredibly foretunate to live in such a beautiful place. Some would argue it is a photographers dream with the diversity and abundance of wildlife which we have on our doorstep. I have had some of my work published and have sold many of my images including a rare and beautiful visitor to these parts, a leatherback turtle. I hope to continue my love of wildlife photography and aim to pursue a career in documentary work or marine mammal research.
