Grey and drizzly day with poor visibility but the wildlife didn’t mind the damp weather at all! We recorded seabirds galore including very close encounters with storm petrels, bonxies, puffins, fulmars and hundreds of shearwaters, and had two different interactions with some active common dolphins. The dolphins were enjoying surfing in the swell and one of the pods had recently been feeding in an area with lots of bird life too where a great skua was harassing several gannets, as they do. Three grey seals were bottling in a sheltered cove out of the wind when we stopped to have lunch and a shelduck and a peregrine falcon were also spotted along the coast round by the Helford.
15 Common Dolphins, surfing and bow-riding, 3 Atlantic Grey Seals, bottling, 2 Storm Petrels, 2 Great Skuas ‘Bonxies’, 16 Fulmars, offshore and at nest site, 1 Sandwich Tern, 100s of Manx Shearwaters, 2 Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, 4 Kittiwakes, lots of Gannets, 1 Shelduck, 1 Peregrine Falcon, at nest site, 1 Buzzard
