Much better conditions offshore today although still pretty icy! We had lovely close encounters with several seals along the first stretch of coastline as well as a greater black backed gull carrying an eel in its bill. Lots of auks could be seen flying through offshore as well as a couple of flocks of kittiwakes and traveling gannets. A pod of common dolphins was seen rushing in the waves in the choppier water which came over to bow ride and swim along either side of us. Heading back into Falmouth, two porpoises popped up next to the boat, the first we’ve recorded outside of the Manacles.
18 Common Dolphins, including juvenile, 2 Harbour Porpoises, 26 Atlantic Grey Seals, couple hauled out, 1 Fulmar, 18 Kittiwakes, lots of Guillemots, Razorbills, Manx Shearwaters, Gannets, 4 Oystercatchers, 8 Turnstones, summer plumage, 1 Egret
