Perfect conditions over the weekend although a little quiet offshore. We found a big pod of common dolphins on Saturday consisting of several calves with their foetal folds still visible. We were able to spot them from a long distance as they were leaping out of the water, and as we got closer they came over to bow ride. No fins yesterday sadly despite covering a lot of sea but a small pod of Risso’s dolphins were sighted to us around the Manacles in the morning so we must’ve just missed them! Lots of auks were seen offshore including a couple of puffins and we’re starting to record quite a bit of bait fish which is a good sign. Around the coast several grey seals popped up to have a look at us and we counted at least 4 raven chicks in the nest.
40 Common Dolphins, maternal pod, +-30 Atlantic Grey Seals, including two hauled out, Gannets, mostly travellers, 2 Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, 1 Great Northern Diver, summer plumage, 1 Sandwich Tern, 8 Swallows, Ravens with chicks in nest
